REGULAR MEETING

                                 MAY 16, 2023

6:30 P.M.

Usakowski opened the meeting at 6:30 p.m. with the Pledge of Allegiance.

ROLL CALL OF OFFICERS: Usakowski, Jackson, Wrubel, Hoffman, Deland and Nelson.

 

ABSENT: Ward.

 

ALSO PRESENT: Chief Ed Gratz.

 

  1. APPROVAL OF AGENDA

    Deland motioned to approve the agenda as presented supported by Wrubel.

    Motion Carried.

 

  1. PRESENTATION OF MINUTES FOR MAY 02, 2023

    Deland mentioned to correct Page 3 DPW Report, EAGLE should be spelled EGLE.

     

    Jackson motioned to approve the minutes of May 2, 2023 as amended supported by Deland. Motion Carried.

    

III.    CONSENT AGENDA AND COMMUNICATIONS

  2. Revenue & Expenditure Report for Period Ending 05/31/2023

Usakowski mentioned that we have disbursements totaling $99,300.02.

 

Jackson motioned to approve the disbursement of $99,330.02 to pay the bills and file supported by Wrubel.

 

ROLL CALL VOTE: YES: Jackson, Wrubel, Hoffman, Deland, Nelson and Usakowski. NO: None. ABSENT: Ward. (6-0-1) Motion Carried.

Wrubel mentioned about Resolution 23-16 Wadhams Road being redone between I-94 and I-69.

 

Usakowski: We are not liable as a township for that project.

 

Deland motioned to receive and file Boards and Commissions supported by Hoffman. Motion Carried.

  1. FIRE DEPARTMENT APPLICATIONS
    1. Tyler E. Shoudy

    Chief Gratz would like to hire Tyler Shoudy who has all his fire training. This would give us 33 staff and the bylaws say we could have 40.

     

    Wrubel motioned to allow Chief Gratz to hire Tyler Shoudy to the fire department supported by Deland.

     

    ROLL CALL VOTE: YES: Wrubel, Deland, Usakowski, Hoffman, Jackson and Nelson. NO: None. ABSENT: Ward. (6-0-1) Motion Carried.

     

    The Fire Departments Pancake Breakfast is this Sunday at Station 1 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

     

    Rescue 1 that we just purchased is in service now.

     

    A co-operative program between us and Port Huron Township and what we are working on now is Confined Space Rescue Program. We will also be offering some training to the DPW.

     

    A Dry Hydrant will be installed at the curve on Burns Road. We have a verbal agreement with the property owner.

     

    The I-69 construction is all accessed by Wadhams Road. We have a mutual aid with Emmett except for medical.

XI.    OFFICERS REPORT

  1. Supervisor Usakowski

Our Assistant Assessor Mark Foster has taken a new Assessor position in another township. He is willing to help us out temporarily until we can find someone to fill his position. We will be posting for this position and are looking for someone already certified.

 

Parks: We are having a fishing derby for the kids on June 10. It will be a “Catch and Release”. Registration will begin at 8 a.m. and the derby starts at 9 a.m.

 

Hoffman: Will the rails on the pier be fixed before it?

 

Usakowski: I’m not sure yet.

 

Usakowski mentioned that we are looking for donations of fishing poles and asking families to bring their own if they have them.

 

The Blue Water Fallen Hero Banners arrived and we will have them up through Memorial Day.

 

We have had some complaints about 621 Range Road and duplicate numbering.

 

The criteria for numbering were violated by Marysville.

 

  1. Clerk Wrubel

The Clerk’s office is working hard in making sure the entire Veterans list is correct and ready for flag placement by the American Legion at the Caswell Cemetery for Memorial Day.

 

  1. Treasurer Jackson

The auditors will be here July 31 to August 2nd.

 

Delinquent Personal Property Taxes are slowly coming in.

 

The St. Clair County Tax Reimbursement came in.

 

Wales Township is considering a contract with us for fire help.

 

Financial Review presented.

 

  1. Trustee Hoffman

No report. Questioned about liability on the new building at the park.

 

  1. Trustee Deland

Deland questioned about the trail in the woods outside the office building.

 

  1. Trustee Nelson

There wasn’t a ZBA meeting this past week.

Wants to know what is going on with the old school building in Smiths Creek.

 

Usakowski: We don’t have another building to put the records in.

    Wrubel motioned to adjourn the meeting at 7:01 p.m. supported by Nelson.

    Motion Carried.
