On December 19, 2023, the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) issued its fifth violation notice to the Smiths Creek Landfill. This notice was a response to alleged environmental violations at the landfill.
In accordance with EGLE’s directives, the Smiths Creek Landfill was given until January 9, 2024, to provide a comprehensive response to address the issues raised in the violation notice.
The response submitted by the landfill provides detailed information about the alleged violations and outlines the corrective actions taken by the landfill management.
The response will undergo a thorough review by township officials to ensure transparency and review of issues related to impacted community members.
