II. OLD BUSINESS
a. Cemetery Expansion
Sturdevant stated that the new driveway has been constructed at Caswell Cemetery. It extends from Burns road and goes south past the corner of the new property behind the existing cemetery. Erickson stated that there are piles of dirt that were created when the horseshoe shaped pond was dug. Erickson stated that Sparling would like these piles of dirt to be removed. They are in the way of him being able to extend his driveway further. Erickson stated that Sparling will sell the dirt to have it removed. Sturdevant stated that the dirt belongs to the township. It was removed from the existing pond and needs to be filled back in. Wagar stated that would it not be cheaper to move the dirt and fill in the pond now. If the township had to have new dirt hauled in to fill the pond later, it could be costly. Can Sparling legally sell the dirt? It is not on his property. It is still on the property of Koveck. Sturdevant suggested that Erickson discuss this with the township supervisor. Sturdevant stated that the Kimball Township Board of Trustees at the November meeting discussed the removal of the trees on the new property. Sturdevant asked Hand what is going to happen with the tree cutting. Hand stated that a few residents would like to remove the wood from the land and possibly save the township from doing it. Sturdevant stated that this would be fine, but what kind of mess would be left? Would the township then have the expense of removing all of the stumps and brush that was left behind? This would be more costly that just plain bulldozing the brush into a pile. Sturdevant told Hand that if someone wants the wood, then they must take everything. This includes removing the stump and cleaning up all brush. If this cannot be accomplished then they cannot have the wood. Sturdevant asked Hand what kind of liability would the township have? What if a tree fell on a headstone in the existing cemetery? Who would be responsible? Hand stated that an agreement would have to be signed making the individual responsible for any possible damage.
III. NEW BUSINESS
a. Board Terms
Sturdevant asked Hand what needs to be done about the two Cemetery Board members terms that end on December 31, 2013. Hand stated that an application is available and needs to fill out. This application then needs to be turned back into himself or the township supervisor before the end of the year.
