II. OLD BUSINESS
Cemetery Financing
Sturdevant still has not been able to get in contact with Mr. Delore. He will keep pursuing this matter.
III. NEW BUSINESS
a. Cemetery Expansion
Erickson presented the proposal for the construction of the new driveway at Caswell Cemetery. Erickson wanted to know what type of drainage the new driveway would need. He suggested either ditches on both sides of the drive, or possible stacking of the drive so the water runs to one side only. A possible third would be to put a tile line on one side and ditch on the other. The Cemetery Board liked the idea of a tile line and only one ditch.
Motion by Cline to present to the Kimball Township Board of Trustees the proposal for the drainage of the new driveway in Caswell Cemetery to consist of drainage tile on the West side of the drive and a ditch constructed on the East side of the drive support by Bennett. Motion Carried.
- Cemetery Enforcement
R. Hand inquired about the violations and the possible removal of some shrubs and trees. Sturdevant stated that these were approved by a previous administration and would have to be grand fathered in. Only if these become unruly and un-kept, then the township has the right to remove them after contacting the lot owner. Wagar asked Hand if he had been in contact with the lawn service regarding the lack of weed trimming. Hand stated that he had talked to the lawn care company and the reason they did not trim closer to headstones is they did not want to destroy any flowers. The Cemetery Board stated that during their walk of the cemetery, there were weeds taller than some of the headstones. Hand will contact the lawn care company and get further information. Hand also asked about the date of March 15 on the sign for all wreaths and grave blankets to be removed. He stated that some residents were unable to get to the cemetery by this dated due to weather. Sturdevant suggested changing the words to read, “All Christmas wreaths and grave blankets must be removed by March 15 weather permitting“.
Motion by Wagar to have this changed in the ordinance supported by Cline. Motion Carried.
Motion by Cline to adjourn meeting at 3:30 p.m. supported by Wagar.
Motion Carried.
Adjourned at 3:30 p.m.
